This flower is affectionately known as the moon swallower or the home of the moon. As a nyctinastic flower it opens during the night and closes by the morning. Which is thought to be the origin of its nickname, as the flower housed the moon during the sunlight hours and set it free during the evening as its petals opened. Some of the stories include that the petals are lined with stars so the moon never has to be with out them.
